Any suggestions on what to check out on our road trip down Hwy 1/Pacific Coast?

Help! I'm an east coast girl so I'm completely clueless on west coast stuff. My friend and I leave in two days to go on a last-minute road trip along hwy 1. We're leaving San Francisco on Wednesday morning, and plan on being in LA by Thursday night. I would LOVE to get any suggestions on favorite spots to eat, see, stay at along the way from anyone that knows?! Thanks so much!
