What do they do with the goods confiscated at the airport security checkpoints?

I think it is perfectly reasonable that passengers should check their baggage and other items of carry on for disallowed items, the rules are clear, nothing over 100ml and where they are within that size limit or meet other regulations, they should be in a clear bag, or declared.
