Is my boyfriend insecure or really just concerned for my safety?

He doesn't allow me to travel with my friends. And the other day, I wanted to end things with him and wanted to change my Facebook relationship status, and he got so mad and actually came over to scold me and disallow me to ever change my relationship status. I got quite afraid (because he has been physically abusive before) that I said I wouldn't break up with him. Then he asked "Why? Do you plan to cheat on me?" And today he was joking around saying if I ever the break this certain promise, I would have to marry him. Because he knows I don't want to get married, yet he doesn't care and insists that we'll still get married. Also told me that we would never break up no matter what problem. Sometimes I feel as though he's a bit creepy, but maybe I'm thinking too much. What do you think?
