Is it unlawful for a parent to disallow their child's relationships?

My boyfriend and I are minors, and he's been stuck between a hard place and a rock. His family is outwardly trying to separate us, for him to have something of an arranged marriage. Doesn't this go against a right of freedom/choice? And would it be considered mental abuse?
