My first car finally, what to get?

i have absolutely no ideas. all i know is that i want great gas mileage as in 25 city and 35 hwy. maybe not that much but id like it as close to that area as possible. i obviously want a smaller car (i.e. ford focus, chevy cobalt, etc...) i just dont know what kind!! i'm open to any make and model seeing as how i'll prolly go looking at repo cars or craigslist. please include a good price i should pay as well as MPG. thanks so much
