Should candidates be required to write their own speeches and be disallowed from using a teleprompter?

No. Why would we want to shackle a leader into a asinine pursuit of making a speech more difficult to do. Speech making is very incidental and small to what those people really do. Also such a measure sounds impractical and just crazy (no offense but it is.. what are we going to do? arrest someone for not writing their own speech?). We know what the polcies are and so the speeches are incidental... if anyone gets their information from a speech rather than a policy or the talking points of any candidate then I can't really help that person. I would argue that speeches are not even necessary although they can set up tone and context and a candidate does not have to waste time on fashioning those components.
